I found this encyclopedia-like book just chillin on it’s own like it wasn’t about to change my life. more post hump
It’s a history of typefaces and graphic styles which goes back to 1628 and up to 1900.
This collection of lead cast lettering is SO dope. As soon as I started looking through it, I couldn’t put it down. For being about type, it’s cramed with visually rich content for my malnourished peepers to feast upon. Packin type so ornamental, each character is a damn christmas tree. Running through this forest I found some AMAZING illustrations which could only have taken FOREVER to make. It also provides a brief history about some of our favorite fonts (like Futura, Bodoni, Caslon, Akzidenz Grotesk, Baskerville etc) which talks about the work and workers behind their coming to fruition.
This book is the first of two. The second is due out March 2010 so if you didn’t get enough lead type from this one, pre-order the next one
